One thing I’m not a big fan of with this blog’s format is that I can’t respond directly to people’s comments. I think if you’re kind enough to come visit here, let alone leave a note, then you deserve a little interaction. So here are my replies to some comments left by you guys:

Escape Velocity - Review

Roslin Rocks: Eddie and Mary are so amazing and if they don’t get nominated this year for Emmys . . . I’ll do something drastic . . . maybe P So say we all.
Saul/Six isn’t as crazy as the Boomer/Cavil yuck-fest. I don’t know why but I kinda get it. Six is attracted to broken men I think, she wants to save people. I can agree with you on the yuck-fest, but the “broken men” comment I’m not so sure of. I don’t think of Baltar as being a broken man, at least not initially. Yes, he did have some trouble swallowing the fact that he aided in the destruction of Caprica, but I don’t think it broke him. And I don’t think Gaius would’ve thought he himself needed some fixing until the beginning of this season.
PS - Lee needs to get Airlocked . . . just saying. ;) But as I told you over IM, not before he has some kids. Lord have mercy on whatever woman would put up with him as a husband, but I really want to see Grandpa!Bill. It would be adorable. Once the grandkids are around, then Lee can get airlocked.

Jessica: I’m glad you liked the review. And yes, the hot, young Cylon women/old, disturbed Cylon men pairings in this episode were difficult to swallow.

Kara Thrace and Her Special Destiny:

Adam: Whoa. Nice job noticing that! I wish I could take credit for something so smart, but I absolutely cannot. This is a theory I’ve seen floating around for at least a month, and I thought it was a terribly interesting idea.
I wonder how they’ll make the idea of human resurrection plausible and not cheesy. It may involve explaining that humans are indeed a kind of cylon. This show has done an amazing job of turning what used to be cheesy (sorry to the die-hard original BSG fans, but old school Cylons make me laugh) and turning it into something fierce. I have no doubt that they could accomplish the same with this possible storyline.

Sarah: I too start to wonder if Kara is taking them on a wild goose chase. I’m also wondering if Kara will start to remember what happened to her after the ship exploded? I think with last week’s episode (”The Road Less Traveled”) we got a couple lines that lead me to believe that this isn’t a wild goose chase, and that this theory holds some merit. The first is when Kara tells Helo that if she could just hear the “sound” again, she get them to Earth. In the classic BSG episode where the Ship of Lights appeared, when it approached it emitted a very loud, pulsing sound that would render people unconscious before they were brought aboard. Is this the sound that Starbuck is referring to? Also, Leoben tells her that when he looks at her now, she looks like an “angel” and appears to be “full of light”. The people on the Ship of Lights called themselves “seraphs” which is a type of angel. And obviously, there’s a lot of light associated with their ship. Those two things made me stop and ponder if this theory might hold some truth.

Jessica: There are several things about the last few minutes before the ship exploded that intrigue me. In addition to “this has all happened before,” I remember “they’re waiting for me.” Who was she, a self-proclaimed athiest, speaking about? First, I have to nitpick and say that Starbuck is not an Atheist. We’ve seen her pray on a few occasions, and not just general prayers, these were to specific gods and goddesses according to their strengths and what they represent. Also, there’s the fact that she refuses to divorce Sam because of her religious beliefs. So I wouldn’t call her an Atheist. As for who she’s talking to or about, I don’t know. This is one part of the mystery where the original series doesn’t really help. But I’m sure we’ll get an answer… someday.

OpenBothEyes: However, I am not one of those people who think Starbuck is a Cylon. Cylons would have been much more careful in sending her back to the fleet. They wouldn’t have given her that pristine viper. Remember in season 1 on Caprica when Athena faked being captured? Before going back to Helo (I think) Doral beat her up so it would be believable. I’m pretty sure they would have beaten up Starbuck’s replica viper before sending her back. I completely agree about Starbuck not being a Cylon; that would just be too easy of a story, and this show is not about doing the “easy”. But I also think regardless if she came back in a pristine Viper or one that was identical, there still would be a lot of explaining to do about how things happened. And yes, Doral beat up Athena before she met back up with Helo. ;)

“The Road Less Traveled” Review:

Ellen: Why do you think Leoben is a Kara/Sam shipper? Wasn’t his point that they were meant to be enemies? I guess that’s a version of shipping, but… Listening to it a second time, I still believe what I heard the first time, which is the opposite of what you are saying. Leoben said that they shouldn’t be enemies and that he hoped the two of them had worked things out because they shouldn’t fight each other. But maybe my ears are tricking me.

John: Is the “Sound” the song that the final five all heard in their heads at the same time, including Starbuck? I don’t believe the sound is a Bob Dylan song, I believe it is the sound that comes from the Ship of Lights. There are more details in the post about Kara Thrace and Her Special Destiny and in the comments posted above about it, but when the Ship of Lights from the original series closed in on a ship, it was proceeded by a loud sound. I believe this is the sound that Kara is searching for again. I do not think she is the final Cylon. She does have a special role, but I don’t think it’s to be the twelfth model.

Graham: We can infer that Hera is on Galactica as in the previous episode Tigh told Caprica Six that her request to meet with Hera had been denied. While that is probably likely, it could also be a lie. Would you be willing to tell your enemy, “Oh, the reason you can’t see the invaluable hybrid kid is because she’s off with her parents on a super secret mission to find Earth”? Saul telling Six that her request is denied does not let us know at all about where the child is located. But after seeing pretty much a whole episode on the Demetrius last week, I think it’s safe to say Hera isn’t there. I just wish they would care enough to let us know where she is.

The First Caprican:

Commander Mommy: Especially if we are finally going to learn more about the creation of the ’skinjobs’ finally.  I’m not entirely sure that will be the case.  It doesn’t make since in my scientifically-oriented mind that the creators of the Cylons would go from advanced, humanoid machines to the original toasters back to the humanoids.  Plus, it was such a shock to everyone in the mini-series to find out that the new models resembled humans that I doubt there were skinjobs before.

“Faith” Sneak Peek and Preview:

Jessica: Yes, it does look like a very cool episode.  Not only is Sam shooting people, but Laura Roslin will be in this one (thank goodness).  As for Hulu, if you look to the right of the screen under Blogroll, you’ll find a link to the site.  It’s a place where episodes of tv shows current and not-so-current, as well as movies, can be found.  But be warned, only click on it if you have great willpower or a lot of time to waste.

Let me rephrase: It makes sense to me that, as a surgeon, this woman would happily and gleefully give her daughter’s memories and personality to a machine in the short term BUT instill within it a desire to inhabit a more ‘human’ form. Thus, we have this entire race, if you will, that is not content with their metal forms but that hungers for something they don’t have. Not only that but they have the single-minded relentless work ethic (if you will) of a machine (because, well, they ARE machines!). Therefore, this woman could be the key to WHY the Cylons bothered to try and duplicate a ‘inferior and barbaric’ race.
